Desmond Child “Discipline” Label: Elektra
Year of release: 1991
During the 80’s, Desmond Child was worldwide recognised through his unique talent to write outstanding high level songs most of which became No 1 hits. Artists like Kiss, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Joan Jett, Robin Beck (..and the list goes on and on!) owe a big part of their popularity and history to this multi-talented musician/composer.
With his own history since late 70’s when he had his own band Desmond Child And Rouge, 1991 was the time for this great composer to come back for his own sake as a solo artist this time releasing his 1st (and unfortunatelly one and only until today) solo album titled “Discipline”. A huge “parade” of well known musicians participated in “Discipline” like Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Tico Torres, Diane Warren, Joan Jett, Steve Lukather, Michael Anthony, Vinne Colaiuta, Kane Roberts, Michael Landau, John Mcurry and of course Maria Vidal, Diana Graselli and Myriam Valle (Rouge), artists with whoam Desmond Child had worked with in the past and it was their turn to “pay him back” in his 1st solo album.
“Discipline” is undoubtfully one of the most excellent and important A.O.R. albums ever created! Songs like the “catchy” “The Price of Loving You”, “Discipline”, “I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend”, “Love On The Rooftop”, the fantastic duet with Maria Vidal “Obsession”, “According To The Gospel of Love”, “You’re The Story of my Life”, are some of the diamonds of this A.O.R. masterpiece! I still recall the surprise I felt by Desmond’s vocal abilities and in general the quality of his voice when I listened to this album for the 1st time. He has an amazing, passionate “voice colour” and he steps perfectly on every single note making every song sound even more perfect. Desmond himself along with Sir Arthur Payson guarantee the high level production of the album.
I could talk for hours and hours for this album (and for Desmond)...Fantastic songs, outstanding performance, perfect production, an album that really touches your soul and carries you away with its magic if you let it! An album that can easily turn into...”Obsession”!
…And that’s the price of loving...DESMOND’s music!” |
