"Infestation"

Label: Loud & Proud/Roadrunner

Ratt are one of the pioneering bands of the hair metal/sleaze movement that grew tall during the 80s, based in Los Angeles. Eleven years later, they return with a new album, and they do their part in reviving the genre.

Having watched the video for the first album single “Best Of Me”, I was totally satisfied by the lot of it. Huge song, bone-breaking chorus, the band in high spirits, the video decent…what more could I ask for…I was waiting for the full album to get a full picture of what RATT had to say in 2010. Unfortunately, although this was not exactly what you would say a wasted wait, but I was not thrilled. To be fair, the album has all those elements that made the band known everywhere and in a pretty decent degree too, possibly more than I expected, however there is a lack of real compositions. Leaving the single aside and also bypassing the excellent “Eat Me Up Alive” which sound like “You’re In Love” only considerably faster, the whole lot might have its moments, like “Last Call”, “As Good As It Gets” and “Don’t Let Go”, but these are simply not enough. What makes things better is that Steven Pearcy performs admirably while guitar-wise, Warren DeMartini blends in nicely with newcomer Carlos Cavazo (Quiet Riot). I should also make note of the very nice and crystal clear sound of this album.

To make a long story short, this album really has its moments but, maybe due to my enormous expectations, did not “click” they way I wanted it to. What it manages, though, is to make clear that RATT, fortunately, are here to stay!
