"IV"

Label: Columbia

Year of release: 1982

The album Τοto IV is the forth and most successful of the band and the numbers speak from their own: 6 Grammy Awards among which are included "Record of the Year" for Rosanna", "Album of the Year", and "Producer of the Year" for the band. Additionally, it reached #4 at Billboard's Pop as an album, while the single Rosanna reached #2 (It was written for Rosanna Arquette, Steve Porcaro's girlfriend at that time).

What can anyone say for Τοto as a band, as musicians, as performers, as a genius band... words are not enough, the album contains classic tracks, that established their domination in the music industry and simply introduced them to the remaining who just ignored them, while they convinced for their talent and the last non believers. As a token of word I‘ll mention a statement of Eddie Van Halen - Τοto are the best musicians on Planet Earth!!

That release had
five singles, the aforementioned "Rosanna", the smash hit "Africa" which reached #1 and "I Won't Hold You Back" which made it in the top 10, followed by the tracks "Make Believe" and "Waiting for Your Love". All those singles can only mean one thing: TOTAL SUCCESS!! There are no objections if we claim that the sound and the feelings that arise from their music characterized a whole generation of musicians and audience, while they set the music standards for the demands of listeners and the evolving musicians through out the world.

There
is no need to analyze every track since all of them are considered as classics. Each one has a different approach of style; the singles raise the standards high from their own. The A.O.R. had its kings, a fantastic performing based on Hard Rock guitar playing and Jazz influences. The lead vocals combined with the perfect secondary ones had created a state of perfection.

The
Τοto IV was a trademark for the career of the band in the following years, it opened the door for a variety of opportunities in the future, while at the same time it paid back all the hard work and talent of its musicians. As a token of respect and honour I list you analytically the musicians that were part of this album:
