Hardcore Superstar
"Split Your Lip"
Label: Nuclear Blast
Just 17 months after “Beg For It”, the Sweds are back with their 8th album titled “Split Your Lip”. The band’s drummer Ade, mentioned in a press release that the band wanted this album to sound as direct as possible and therefore it was recorded live in just 5 days, and it shows. The album is more harsh than “Beg For It”, even more than “Dreamin’ In A Casket” of 2007 and it gives the same sensation as their first one in 2005. We can also see a return to a more sleazy style in the songs, which means that the songs are less complex and the choruses are more melodic. Hardcore Superstar always knew how to put the grove in their music and there’s plenty of that here. For example, “Guestlist” and “Last Call For Alcohol” are songs that will immediately be included in the band’s set list aside hymns like “We Don’t Celebrate Sundays Anymore” and “Wild Boys” and will stay there for long. Those two songs along with “Moonshine”, where the unleashed verse parts and the hopping chorus take you back to their roots, and the same titles “Split Your Lip” are prominent in the album without the rest being worse. I also particularly liked “Honeymoon” and while I don’t think it will be a hit, it grasped my horns!! Also interesting in “Here Comes That Sick Bitch Again” showing a ifferent aspect of the band, one we’ve never seen before. In conclusion this is an album that all sleaze lovers must buy. I believe that it reaches the heights of “Dreamin’ In A Casket” and it keeps me anxious on when it will be the time to watch them perform live.
