Three years after his first appearance on Hellenic ground with his new band that bears his name, the legendary Ross The Boss returned to present to his fans songs from his debut album “New Metal Leader”, as well as to perform the awaited old Manowar songs.

When I arrived at
Texas Necropolis half an hour before the show’s beginning, there was an announcement outside the club, mentioning that due to an illness of the singer, he would be replaced by 5 Greek singers and of course only Manowar songs would be performed. Actually, I don’t think that many people were really disturbed or discouraged by that, since Ross The Boss’s vocalist is not the best he could get, and that fact seems even more obvious, as he carries the burden of performing Manowar songs, thus he is inevitably compared to Eric Adams. So that was the start of a big heavy metal party.

But let’s take things from the start. At about 21:00, Marauder walked the stage and they presented songs from their entire discography, without emphasizing in their latest album: “Face the Mirror”. Their performance was good enough and their dedicated fans sang along their songs. In fact we heard the following tracks: “Firebrands”, “Power from the sky”, “Free like an eagle”, “Born again”, “Sense of metal”, “The return of the warrior”, “Born to rock”, “Cry for the glorious town”, “Heroes fight”, “God’s will”, “The Greek Revolution begins”.

A little after 22:00pm, it was the turn of Ross the Boss and his gang to hit the stage. First vocalist to join them was “Trabakoulas” of the infamous humorous heavy metal band “Anorimoi”, who had the best vocal performance of the show and he earned the applause of the audience from the first notes of “Manowar”. He went on, joining the band for 3 more songs, giving his place behind the microphone to John, vocalist of the Hellenic band  “Crimson Fire”, who performed “Thor”.

In general the leading atmosphere was that of fun and mostly of a “rehearsal” attitude. Everyone could come up on the stage and say whatever they wanted to, from phrases to singing along with each singer. All that attitude contributed to the performance of Ross and his band, which was mediocre and they also started not to take themselves seriously and not really care about how they actually played the songs (since no one else really seemed to care).

That was also a result of the non professional performance of some of the singers (none of them is to blame though, since it all happened at such a short notice). That whole friendly, unprofessional party atmosphere was good on the one hand and not so good on the other, meaning that it really was something unique and everyone had a great time, but still maybe it was not exactly what some of the people who had come to the concert were there for.

Either way, it was something unforgettable that we will rarely get the chance to see again!
