Stargazer

"S/T"

Label: Avenue Of Allies

This is the debut album of the Norwegian band Stargazer that formed in the September of 2008 from singer Tore Andre Helgemo and guitarist William Ernstsen.  After they assured one of the strongest Scandinavian rhythm sections with bassist MortenMorty BlackSkaget (ex-TNT) and drummer Steinar Krokstad (ex-Stage Dolls) it was easy for the band to find a record deal. But at the same time our expectations were high…

With this strong line up, Stargazer and their company, according to the press release, believe that they will become the next rock stars in their country, something that seems difficult for now. Their self titled LP, even though it is good enough, it can’t beat some other new releases from the same genre. The very good production from the veteran Rune Nordal (TNT, Stage Dolls) brings out the beautiful guitar melodies that exist in the whole album and bump up the 11 compositions which are a mix of old school hard rock and today’s melodic rock, while an additional positive thing is the characteristic voice of Andre Helgemo. But, a huge hit is for sure missing. I believe that the next studio album is their last chance if they want really to be superstars. However the choruses from “This Is The Night” and “Working On The End” have been stuck in my mind the last few days.

Stargazer” is a pleasant record, but it is suggested only to the fans of the genre, as the others may find it a little boring and nerveless.
