The only unfaltering thing before the Nevermore show was that the new Fuzz Club would be drown by the fanatic friends of a band that 13 years before was booing as a support band in an Iced Earth concert. However, from “Dreaming Neon Black” and then, the Seattle metallers visit our country with only successful concerts, something that repeated the last May’s Friday night.

The night didn’t begin with the best circumstances as the unbearable heat in the club’s ground floor in combination with the bad sound didn’t let us to enjoy the progressive metallers Rex Mundi fro Thessalonica, a band that 3 years ago had released a very good EP. Although the band show us that works hard and I believe that these two support performances in Athens and yesterday at Thessalonica will help them.

Last time we saw Nevermore in a headline concert was at the “Enemies Of Reality Tour” seven years ago and the reasons were both the mediocre “This Godless Endeavor”  and the many metal concerts that makes you usually choose band that you haven’t ever seen before. In combination with their bad concerts both at March Metal Day in 2007 and Gods of Metal back in 2006 the band seemed to be bemired, an opinion that directly changed after the listening of their new very good LP.

Nevermore4.jpgAfter we get on at the relatively cool and comfortable balcony, Nevermore jumped at the stage with the amazing “Beyond Within” and “The River Dragon Has Come” causing rave at the crowd. With the very good and heavy sound, at least after the third song, and the almost perfect performance directly erased all our negative thoughts. Unfortunately Dave’s voice was in a bad condition, probably because of flu (we saw him multiple times drinking tea during the show) but the extatic crowd covered him as everyone was singing loud during the whole show. Jeff Loomis reminded us that he is one of the best metal guitar players, and Attila Voros, the band’s new guitar player covered sufficiently the blank that existed giving at his band’s sound the essential heaviness, the absence of it had caused many negative remarks at March Metal Day.

The crowd’s participation was amazing and for that Nevermore distributed lots of t-shirts until the end, while the continuous stage diving gave a pure metal character at at the concert that usually gets lost at the big clubs. The concert ended with the amazing performance of “Enemies Of Reality” and with Warrel Dane to promise us us that they will return soon for the “Obsidian Conspirasy Tour”

Although there is another point of view: As this was the promo tour for the new album do we have to expect some extra songs from “Dreaming Neon Black” or from their first LP  at their world tour? Will we listen some unheeded diamonds like “Seed Awakening”, “Deconstruction” or “Fault Of The Flesh”? Will they play longer than 1 ½ hour? We want some non-mainstream movements from a band than begun with this attitude. Maybe the band is still stiff (this was only the fourth concert after the new album) so we will judge them harder in the next concert with the hope to be longer, with better setlist and with Warrel Dane healthy.
