 Hades
"Bootlegged In Boston 1988"
Label: Cruz Del Sur
The American act Hades was one of the top, underground, power metal bands that ever showed up from the other side of the Atlantic. Their great singer Alan Tecchio became known when he sang for the legendary, second Watchtower album, the infamous “Control & Resistance”. When Hades broke up for the first time in 1989, (somewhat reunited in 1994) they had released 2 great, speed albums (Resisting Success and If Αt First You Don't Succeed...) that remained in cult status. The show, parts from which you see in here and became a reason for this release, is the last of a Hades tour as an opening act for Nuclear Assault and Manowar!
As the title predisposes, this live footage originates in some bootleg, shot with a stedy cam by some fan. The sound is tolerable if you keep in mind that it comes directly from the camera’s mic! Sure the quality is poor so this presentation is most of all for the band’s fans; the band kicks ass live! Boston fans enjoy Opinionate!, The Leaders?, Diplomatic Immunity, In the Meantime, Aftermath of Betrayal, I Too Eye, Nightstalker. The setlist is purely taken from the two first Hades albums, so the 80s fans of the band will be very happy.
Unfortunately, the extras are also poor. First of those comes the documentary “Inside The Metal” from “The Downside” era, the band’s fifth studio effort. Their style has already become heavier and down-tempo but with more powerful grooves and vibes. The documentary describes their whole career thoroughly but is quite bad made. It contains plenty of rare material from live and TV shows, videos and interviews. Second and last (!) is an ok video from Dan Lorenzo’s personal project.
Obviously this DVD is for Hades fans only and in a reasonable price. It’s strictly a collector’s item and its quality can’t compete with other, similar, official releases. This is a cult release from a cult band. Those of you that haven’t heard of them before listen to their albums if you wish for some interesting heavy metal. This DVD, however, won’t manage to help their fame by any means. |
