In 2007 Rotting Christ completed 20 years of life and active presence in music becoming one of the longest running and best, in my opinion, bands in the black metal genre. To celebrate the fact the band did a live show in Athens on 8 December 2007, which was filmed in order to be released as a DVD. So, on February 23, 2009, Rotting Christ released "Non Serviam: A 20 Year Apocryphal Story" which consists of 2 DVD +2 CD containing the aforementioned live concert. It is also worth mentioning that this DVD of Rotting Christ is the first shot in Greece in front of their fanatic audience since their previous live DVD named "In Domine Sathana" was shot in Poland.

The first DVD contains the concert that the band gave at Gagarin 205 on December 8, 2007. The band appeared tied and full of energy playing perfectly and with passion all the songs and for 2 hours gave their best and totally satisfied their fans.The setlist includes songs from their debut "Thy Mighty Contract" up to their last album "Theogonia" covering all the albums and periods of the band and it also contains cover of the song "Societas Satanas" from the side-project of Sakis Tolis Thou Art Lord.What more could anyone ask for? Finally, the DVD, in terms of video and sound, is quite good and manages to capture the atmosphere of the live concert.

The second DVD consists of several extras. It contains an interview with Sakis Tolis talking briefly and concisely about the story of the band, from its first days until now (which of course contains English subtitles). It also contains 2 documentaries with scenes from the life of the band in "Sanctus Diavolos" and "Theogonia" tours and it contains parts from live performances during the two tours. Both of them are consisting of amateur videos that have been shot either by the band or by their crew.Very interesting is the making of the detailed description of the equipment used for the recording of their last album "Theogonia" which is at the end of the documentary for the "Sanctus Diavolos" tour. In the end, the DVD contains rare bootlegs of live shows of the band and 3 OFFICIAL video clips for "After Dark I Feel", "Enuma Elish" and "Keravnos Kivernitos". The bootlegs do not have good sound and video quality but they are worthy as they show the incredible relationship of the band with its fans, while they also contain historical moments of the band from their first concerts on the other side of the Atlantic.

As far as the two audio CDs, they simply contain the audio from the live concert in Athens as well as some extra tracks recorded in Larisa on February 3 and 4, 2007.

Ultimately, "Non Serviam: A 20 Year Apocryphal Story" is a very good DVD that will largely satisfy all fans of Rotting Christ.Of course, it could be better especially with more professional videos of the documentaries from the tours and with the addition of English subtitles to them, but still I do not think that anyone will be disappointed by the work already done. This is a release that you should not miss!
