"Live, Raw & Uncut"

POISON: a band that words don't seem to do justice. The band that provided the Merriam-Webster definition of the rock’n’roll lifestyle via endless parties, are putting out their first live DVD since 1999, the year they got together again. The spirit remains the same, from the days back in the unforgettable ‘80s, when glam metal ruled the face of this planet, to the packed arenas of the post-reunion tours. The gig on display was filmed in 2007 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, St. Louis USA, a time when the band was promoting the acclaimed covers record “Poison’d”.

Armed with unbelievable energy, characteristic of their performance, Poison take you straight back to 1991 and the days of the ‘Flesh and Blood’ tour. The first sounds of ‘Look What The Cat Dragged In’ kick off a rock’n’roll party that you really cannot tell if is going to end. It comes as a given that the crowd is going to get wild, as ‘I Want Action’, the trademark-song of L.A. glam scene, completes the opening combo. When it comes to gauging an exceptional frontman, Bret Michaels acts –and probably continue to act for many years to come- as the ultimate rock star.

The band obviously made the failsafe choice of a greatest hits climax, as ‘Unskinny Bop’, ‘I Won’t Forget You’, ‘Fallen Angel’ and, of course, my favorite ‘80s heartbreaking ballad ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’ find their way into the setlist. The same setlist that left us with some unforgettable moments at Sweden Rock 2008 gig. Only a few covers here and there were representing the modern era, proving though equally crucial for their long-standing fans. The director’s approach, together with the sound quality, gives the baying viewer a chance to get so much closer to the band and the crowd. And is there a better way to wind up a crazy night than ‘Talk Dirty To Me’ and ‘Nothing But a Good Time’? But unfortunately, we are only left talking about this on the bus, workplace, on the way to the pub for many years to come. Until Poison decide to cross the Atlantic once more.

Alongside the DVD (1 hour 45 minutes long) a bonus audio CD of the same gig is included in the package. In conclusion, this is a release not to be missed!
