U.D.O.
"Dominator"
Label: AFM Records
After the release of the very good EP “Infected”, same U.D.O. tactics every time the band is about to release a new studio album, it’s time for “Dominator”, the 12th album of Udo and his band. With some great and respectable musicians of European classic heavy metal, such as Stefan Kaufmann (ex-Accept) on the guitars, by his side, the sound couldn’t be different from our favorite heavy metal sound that Udo has been giving us for 3 decades. Even though the EP had warned us for an excellent forthcoming studio album, my expectations were not really fulfilled, not at this point at least, as although this is a good album it doesn’t make a difference from the band’s previous discography. The beginning of “Dominator” is very good with “The Bogeyman” and “Dominator” compositions standing out for their speed and strong refrains. But from there on the album, although not bad, begins to become rather tiresome, with “Stillness Of Time” and the already known from the EP “Infected”, being the most interesting moments. The rest 7 songs aren’t something special and along with the high stereotype sound we have an one-dimensional album, in general needless for someone that isn’t a fanatic of Udo and his band. I think it’s the first time that I suggest the purchase of an EP instead of a studio album, but it is true that the content of “Infected” was much more interesting. Despite that, the U.D.O. fanatics must listen to them both. They contain all the ingredients that made Udo one of the most important figures in heavy metal history. |
