Farcry
"High Gear"
Label: Kivel Records
Far Cry is a new band that seems to be dedicated to the pure 80s hard rock sound. Influences from bands such as Tyketto, Danger Danger, Winger, Tangier, etc. are evident in their music. Listening to “High Gear” you really get the impression that this album must have been released somewhere between 1988-1992 and in no case do you get the impression that this is a 2009 release. The album’s opener is the powerful “Love Won’t Wait”, a ‘Danger Danger meets Stryper meets Black ‘N Blue’-like track, which gives you a first idea for the album and prepares you for the next tracks. Second comes “Fine Line”, a good and easy-to-remember ballad. The best song of the album is already here, number 3 which is has the title “Have It All”. A track in the vein of Baton Rouge, Bad Company (“Dangerous Age” era) etc., that could easily be considered as the hit of the album. There is also a remarkable cover of Fire Inc.’s “Nowhere Fast”, a track from 1984 that became famous from the soundtrack of the “Streets Of Fire” movie. The first half of the album includes the best compositions, while the second one doesn’t sound as inspired. Specifically, from the 6th track “Out Of Reach” and on, the songs sound more like fillers than anything else. No matter what, Far Cry’s debut is still a good debut in a style that we don’t easily hear in our days, based mainly on this idea: ‘Have fun and a good time!’ |
