The Ocean
"Fluxion" (Re-Release)
Label: Pelagic Records
What could someone say first for a record disc like this?! “Fluxion” is the ultimate harmonization of hard music, brutal vocals and classic instruments, like cello and violin. And yes, it sounds strange, but it’s true! The Ocean (that has counted more than 30 musicians through all its years!) offer this year a re-release of their “Fluxion” album originally released in 2004. First of all the band had a vision to make its two albums “Fluxion” and “Aeolian” as one double cd, but that never happened. Actually, “Fluxion” preceded and with this re-release the band attempts to change it radically. The differences between the two “Fluxion” releases are obvious from their appearance to the bone. First of all, the two covers are different, since the natural subject of water has been replaced by the subject of air. In 2009’s release new vocals have been added, the sound is much better especially the guitars and drums, and the only member (and creator) of the original line-up is Robin Staps, guitarist and composer of the tracks. It is important to say that the CD’s remastering has been by the members of the band. The music fantasy starts with the song “Nazca” and prepares the listeners for the coexistence of so different melodies and gives a spark to extreme guitar riffs. Tracks such as “The Human Stain”, “Comfort Zones” and “The Greatest Bane” show the band’s ‘hard’ side and tracks as “Fluxion”, “Isla Del Sol” can take you away to different places, different ages and mysterious and dark scenes. This record made me feel, imagine and dream! There are nine tracks that seem like a music story and can take the listener fast from the present to the past and reversely. Powerful more than ever, Germans The Ocean come back to give empower post-experimental-hardcore metal. They show us that those different kinds of music can be combined perfectly, with help from the divinities they strongly believe in …fantasy, inspiration and creativity. P.S. On the back page of the cd these words are written: “If you have bought this cd and wanna make a few copies for your friends, go for it! Tell them how cool the artwork is and ask them to buy it too to support the band! And if you have downloaded it, you wouldn’t be reading this text now, would you?” |
