"Thunder In The Sky" (EP)

Label: Magic Circle Music

The kings of metal have just embark their summer “Death To Infidels Tour” where their fans can find their new EP “Thunder In The Sky” which is the first sample of their new emprise “The Asgard Saga”.  Manowar continue the release of very good EPs the last years (The Dawn Of Battle, The Sons Of Odin –both great) and give us hopes about the new album. The EP has 4 new songs, a new version of “The Crown And The Ring”, and the known since 2008 “Die With Honor”.

Except “Father”, which is the worst ballad Manowar have ever written, the rest 3 new songs are very powerful (with “God Or Man” to be the best one) and have the known new Manowar style (Kill With Power meets The Power) without any of them to be an epic song. And that’s the low point of the EP in comparison with the last one “The Sons Of Odin”.  The good news is the great job on the guitars, with very good heavy metal riffs existing on all songs. Their missing was the big problem of “Gods Of War” and the reason that even though the album had good songs, it wasn’t the one that every Manowarrior expected. The metal version of “The Crown And The Ring” is excellent and reminded me the amazing live performance of the song at the Magic Circle Festival the last year, with Eric Adams to prove once again that is the best heavy metal singer.

At the second cd of the EP, Manowar broke again all the records by performing the song “Father” in 15 different languages as an honor to their loyal fans. Even though it is not a good song, its emotive to hear Eric Adams singing in Greek, and doing his best in every different version of the song. An attempt that will be written forever in the history of heavy metal to remind us in the future that there was ONE band that was doing everything for its fans, without considering the caustic comments of its numerous enemies. Now, we are waiting with agony the new album hoping that this time our expectations will be fulfilled.
