"Infini"
Label: Relapse
The Canadians are back with, what is supposed to be, the last album of their long career. It’s released through Relapse records and it’s the band’s 12th effort. After metal’s, probably, greatest loss with the death of the riff master Denis D’Amour (Piggy) in August 2005, the band called it quits. So in “Infini” we find the last music he’s ever recorded that are being performed on tour by Daniel Mongrain (Martyr, ex Gorguts etc).
The band regained fame when in 2003 Jason Newsted (ex Metallica) joined after the return of original singer Denis Belanger (Snake). For those that knew, however, they remained the most serious, metal act that, without trying hard, forced their own style in any genre they touched! For example, the last two albums with Newsted on bass guitars have a strong, rock ‘n’ roll feeling but they have kept all their trademarks (riffs, voice, drumming and lyrics). That’s the band’s essence: whatever they do is astonishing from the first time you hear it but you can’t get enough!
It’s pointless to explain to those that never had a clue about this miracle act what is going on in here. It’s definitely not an album for genre followers but more for original sounds lovers. 'Rest in Peace'… |
