Vinnie Moore
"To The Core"
Label: Mascot Records
Vinnie Moore is one of the guitarists that established shredding and furthermore they developed the title Guitar Hero back in the 80’s. For some years now, he is the guitarist for the British band UFO, so he performs in musical paths and styles which do not match with “strange” solos, arpeggios and shredding in general. So after 3 years of waiting, we have his new solo release with the title “To the Core” which is an instrumental album. From the very first listening I understand the maturity of the artist after so many years of a successful career. The taste of the music is between rock and alternative, while I recognized some funk elements as well. But what is clear is that he emphasizes more on the compositions than in demonstrating his talent, fact that is obvious. Shredding is not priority in that release, while it exists when it is needed. After all Vinnie Moore does not have to prove anything to anyone to convince for his talent. In some cases his style reminded me of Joe Satriani, and more specific the compositions brought me feelings from “Flying in a Blue Dream”, combined with Moore’s culture and style. His performing is accurate as it has always been and all the tracks are of a higher level quality. The one is different from the other without becoming boring, as it always happens with the instrumental releases. As a reference, I would recommend a track that in my opinion is the trademark of the cd and that is “Remorse”. Finally this is a remarkable release that can be heard and liked from all the friends of advanced guitar playing and from all those who do not like endless soloing.
