Suffocation
"Blood Oath"
Label: Nuclear Blast
Many people may not appreciate the American death metal groups. The same happens with Suffocation, who at this point make a powerful comeback with their new cd ''Blood Oath'', with their own target to give their own ‘oath’ to this kind of music. They are obviously improved and with this new release they manage to astound all those who underestimated them in the past. The ''Blood Oath'' composes the sixth disc of the Americans technical death metallers and maybe one of the best records they have released. It aggressively takes a high position among the best albums of this year. The line up of the band consists of Frank Mullen (vocals), Terrance Hobbs (guitar), Guy Marchais (guitar), Derek Boyer (bass) and Mike Smith (drums), who do their best and successfully correspond to the death scene's wants. Terrance Hobbs and Guy Marchais achieve the boldest and most extreme riffs, Mike Smith performs the hardest blast beats, Derek Boyer assorts well the rhythm section and Frank Mullen roars the secret melodies in the way that has put him on the map as an important figure in the genre with his great brutal vocals abilities. The sequence and performance of the tracks make the audience anxious to listen each and every next song! Song such as ''Pray For Forgiveness'', ''Mental Hemorrhage'', ''Come Hell Or High Priest'', with their strained drums and great guitar interchanges, are some of the band’s best creations the record. ''Blood Oath'' is one of the cd’s that I can listen over and over and never get bored! I am sure that it is going to be adored by the fans and also appreciated by all those who had depreciated Suffocation with their previous releases, thus I believe it will give a new spark to the death scene. I wish this cd would never end... Well done, great job! |
