Krescendo Records is a company that specializes in re-releases of rare albums. One of them is the self –titled and only one album of Chequered Past. The band’s name may not ring a bell, but the members of it are definitely well known: Iggy Pop’s guitarist Tonny Fox Sales, Blondie’s bassist Nigel Harrison, Blondie’s drummer Clem Burke and Sex Pistols’ ex guitarist Steve Jones and Michael Des Barres on vocals are Chequered Past.

At first, the cover gave me the impression that this was more or less about punk but eventually I was pleasantly surprised while the style of Chequered Past is a more cheerful straight rock ‘n’ roll/hard rock with strong, easy to remember and pleasant to listen tracks.

With a well cared production delivered by Michael James Jackson who had also done the production of Kiss’ classic album “Creatures of the Night”, Chequered Past’s only album is an interesting re-release and at the same tiem a chance to remember or meet this forgotten band. Fans of 70’s hard rock ‘n’ roll should look for this release.
