"Land of The Free"

Label: Metal Heaven

Geff is a new Swedish Hard Rock project with a line up that you could call a “dream team” of Swedish Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Göran Edman (vocals), Anders Johansson (drums), Mats Olausson (keyboards) and Per Stadin (bass) are names that you can probably recognize from their previous works with Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Hammerfall, John Norum, Silver Mountain, Snake Charmer, Glory, Brazen Abbot, Jean Beauvoir and A.R.K.

With such big names like this in one band, and with the powerful title “Land of the free” I was really expecting to hear something like the Swedish version of Avantasia. Unfortunately the album didn’t amaze me the way I expected it. The album has a pleasant rock sound, some nice riffs, some nice melodies but it lacks of emotion. Of course I found some songs in the album that prove some really good work on the compositions. The title track of the album “Land of The Free” is the most inspired track with a guest appearance of Anders’ brother and known from his career with Stratovarius, Jens Johansson, being more than obvious in the amazing keyboard solo of the track. Also the 8th track of the album “Crusaders” is probably the “hit” of the album, with a very melodic intro, a dynamic verse and a powerful chorus that make up a typical Swedish Rock hit!

Unfortunately, in general this album didn’t impress me as much as I expected. But Geff really seem to believe in this new project they have made and have already started working on new songs for a new album. I hope the next album is worthy of the name invlolved in this project.
