The Gaslight Anthem
"The '59 Sound"
Label: Side One Dummy
The Gaslight Anthem is a new act from New Jersey in the genre of melodic punk / rock created by the mighty Bad religion. They were distinguished immediately due to Brian Fallon’s special, voice talent and its Springsteen color. This is their second CD from Side One Dummy, a very important, independent label. They have a live feeling with up-tempo beats and really strong melody lines, reminding acts such as The Smithereens. They incorporate stuff from rockabilly and country without ruining their material in any way. Check the title track, “The Patient Ferris Wheel” and the ‘bluesy’ “Even Cowgirls Get The Blues”. The whole album, however, shows a fun mood and a band in it! Fans should definitely check these guys and “The ’59 Sound” is a perfect chance to do so. It’s not something excessive but a serious offer for pure rock ‘n’ roll, with four decades of influences, that tries to find its place today. In here they seem to have these potentials. |
