Beneath The Massacre
"Distopia"
Label: Prosthetic
What’s coming up next is some more technical death metal. Beneath The Massacre are from Canada and workaholics, since in a 4-year career they have produced 1 EP and 2 full-length CDs, counting “Dystopia”. They are based on a collaboration of brothers Christopher (guitar) and Dennis Bradley (bass guitar). Also they work once more with the duet Yannick St-Ammand (production / engineering) / Alan Douches (mastering) which means high standard sound. The band plays brutal death metal with unstoppable double bass and ‘wacko’ guitar leads as a more straight-forward Dillinger Escape Plan than Suffocation / Cannibal Corpse style. Their high level of technique seems very interesting and doesn’t degrade the aggression. On the other hand, in most tracks the same lyrics are repeated so that the length is bigger, for no reason. The orchestrations don’t vary and the switch from outrageous speed to beat down becomes tiring. “Mechanics of Dysfunction” but mostly the EP release promised a lot; in here these are not fulfilled. This is definitely not a bad album but it lacks composing essence. And this drummer, Justin Rousselle, should stop taking his pedals everywhere, even in the shower… |
