General Surgery
"Corpus In Extremis - Analysing Necrocriticism"
Label: Listenable Records
Don’t you know that these Swedes are huge Carcass fans (up to “Necroticism era)? Doesn’t the CD title make it clearer? If, indeed, you see a picture of them they might convince you they are real surgeons! Also, their ‘filthy’, infamous, first effort was named “Left Hand Pathology”! In their second, full-length album, General Surgery show up with a new frontman (Erik Sahlström in the place of Grant Mc Williams), thus left with only one, remaining member from the line-up of 1991 “Necrology” EP! Their destructive death / grind music hasn’t been affected since their return back in 1993; maybe in here they have the largest sound ever. The super-loose drumming by half-Greek, Adde Mitroulis (Birdflesh) gives a kick-in-the-butt mood speeding up the total result while riffs and voice sound majestic and ambitious; as they feel. There aren’t many stuff here that are too original or distinctive and some will get bored after the first three-four tracks. “Corpus..” has all potentials to destroy your speakers like you gave it to a clumpsy surgeon (?). Its explosive appetite, rhythm variety and its small length are able to get you dancing! Turn it really loud! |
