Taake

"S/T"

Label:
Svartekunst Productions / Karisma / Dark Essence

Taake began back in 1995. Since then they have been working a lot but still remain Ulvhedin Hoest’s (a.k.a. Ørjan Stedjeberg) personal project. Their new, fourth, full-length effort is probably their best release to date, counting their 3 long plays and their 4 split albums.

Hoest is, besides the frontman, guitarist and bassist for studio and he really enjoys Burzum style black metal; translate this to traditional, Norwegian, attacking riffs and vocals. There are also many black /thrash ideas that are mostly 80’s Bathory oriented. Next to these their slow, ‘rotten’ moments stand more convincing than in their previous releases. That doesn’t mean that there are great differences compared to their past.

It’s probably one of the year’s finest albums for fans of Norwegian black metal from the first half of the previous decade. Taake prove to be loyal to this style but also stable to what they consider their sound until now.
