This is the second album for Primal Fear in Frontiers Records and the first with the band’s new guitarist Magnus Karlsson, an outstanding transfer for the band, as he is included to the 2-3 top new guitar heroes the last years. Furthermore, who forgets his great compositions at the amazing “The Battle” of Allen/Lande project? I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but the new Primal Fear Lp is true dynamite which has no comparison with the last two controversial studio albums of the Germans. All the right ingredients of classic German heavy metal are here: The known perfect vocals from Ralf Scheepers, great riffs from Wolter/Karlsson, variety at the compositions, while the big difference is the lead parts from Karlsson which gives a power metal style in many occasions (“Under The Radar”, “Riding The Eagle”).

Everyone who had forgotten Primal Fear must listen to the new album if he wants to reconsider his thoughts. An easy thing if he listens to the heavy “16.6” and “Under The Radar” or the great mid-tempo “Black Rain” and “5.0. Torn”. And as the listening of the new album goes on, you can’t find filler songs while the last two songs are the best of the cd. The first one called “The exorcist” is a speed metal anthem, and the second is the best Primal Fear ballad ever “Hands Of Time”. The only weak point of the cd is “Soar”, a song that its modern style doesn’t match with Primal Fear but this is only a detail.

“16.6” is one of the best 3 Primal Fear albums and one of the biggest positive surprises of this year for the German scene that lately has given us many excellent releases. For those who believe that bands like Primal Fear have no reason of existence in 2009, I wish them a great time in the next rap metal festival, and I please them to leave us alone in the wonderful world of true heavy metal.
