Billy Sheehan

"Holy Cow"

Label: Mascot Records

This is a new release from Billy Sheehan, an artist who does not need any special recommendation and announcements as he is known as a virtuoso bass player, who has succeed some multi-platinum releases, he has been a key member in top bands (Talas, David Lee Roth, Mr Big), and he is also known as a solo artist. As we can easily indentify, he is a musician who has done and achieved everything in his career, fact that cannot be denied. As a normal consequence, this is giving him the privilege to create the music that expresses him while he can experiment on new sounds and musical paths that cannot be performed from an average musician.

So, this release is consisted by 13 tracks that, once more, their performance is unique. The taste of music cannot be identified as catchy, and this is something that was understood from his previous release as well. The style of music varies from alternative to modern Rock, while there are many instrumental paths with the usual scale analysis and distinctive playing of his, as it represents the trademark of the artist. In general the release can be characterized as a “manual” on how the modern bass must be played.

At this point, it must be mentioned that all instruments in the cd except the drums were performed by Sheehan and he has sang all tracks,  having in three of them some special guests. More specifically, in “A Lit’l Bit’l do it to Ya Ev’ry Time” lead guitar is played by Billy Gibbons (ZZTOP), in the “Dynamic exhilarator” lead guitar is played by his old friend and bandmate from Mr Big, Paul Gilbert, while in the “Turning Point” the Doug Pinnick (Kings X- The Mob) is singing.

Finally, this release can be considered as a must have for all the fans of Billy Sheehan, but and also for all the young musicians who like the taste of modern, experimental, bass playing.
