Can you have underground in the mainstream? This seems to be the case here since in this project (?) created by 58 year-old (!) bass guitarist Bootsy Collins (ex Funkadelic, James Brown etc.) and the vocalist / guitarist Greg Hampton; with them the infamous guitarist Buckethead, DJ Tobe "Tobotius" Donohue and keyboard / piano artist Steve Ferlazzo. Drums, besides guest Chris Collier, are arranged or played by Tobotius, ο Buckethead and Bootsy. There is a mix up with the staring credits since there are many musicians mentioned, like Bernie Worrell (keys – ex Funkadelic) and drummer Bryan “Brain” Mantia (ex Primus, Godflesh etc), who are omitted from the analytical line-ups of each track! The production is very interesting, as the whole idea behind this jam of musicians with different musical approach. The songs sometimes sound nice, others ok and others boring. Even if they have the mood to mix hip hop elements with metallic guitars the result doesn’t sound old-fashioned. But it doesn’t, in any moment, impress, either. Check the lyrics about the New World Order (even if the cover will bring…Metallium to mind!) and Chuck D’s guest vocals from the great Public Enemy. You just got it that this CD isn’t for people stuck with metal or hard rock! To be honest, this goes more to Buckethead followers or Funkadelic fans or those who are obsessed with new musical suggestions. Don’t forget that there isn’t a lot of room for novelties…
