Cannibal Corpse
"Evisceration Plaque"
Label: Metal Blade Records
Cannibal Corpse don’t need special introductions. In 1996 they became the first death metal band ever to make a Billboard chart appearance! “Evisceration Plague” is their eleventh studio album and doesn’t add or remove anything from their legend.
From one point of view one can see no special differentiations from “Kill” either in the perfect brutal death sound production by Erik Rutan or the composing of almost the whole album by Alex Webster! As in “Kill” also the band still tries to perform catchier songs (“Gallery Of Suicide” style) through their constant riff changes and the complexity of their music; in some points this seems achieved. On the other hand, however, they’ve stopped long ago to evolve their established style and this is probably a deadlock.
Don’t mistake this for a bad album since it’s a perfect sample of brutal death metal by one of the genre’s pioneers. The band has laid down a complete product from sound to orchestrations with total respect to its followers. By no means, though, they have presented something special like in “The Bleeding” or “Gallery Of Suicide” and you hear no breakthroughs from the pattern that we are used to get from them. Take your pick.
