Wolf
"Ravenous"
Label: Century Media
Wolf is a Swedish band that follows the classic steps of the well-known classic 80’s metal bands and this year they have released their new album entitled “Ravenous”.
Many of you will wonder “why should I listen to another classic heavy metal band?” And no-one could blame you for asking, since so many bands follow that same pattern. The answer is that this band has to offer us many interesting riffs, nice guitar solos, melody and dynamic vocals from Niklas Stalvind and his gang. But what you will find even more intriguing, is that Wolf is not another copy of one of their influences, but they have a personal style with nice compositions. All the songs of “Ravenous” are at a high level and there are almost no bad moments, since all the songs have nice choruses and guitars that every heavy metal band that respects itself should have, as well as dynamic vocals. The production done by Roy Z is also a big contribution to the very good outcome, since it does not leave you with the bitterness that some of the 80’s albums of the genre did. We also have 2 guest contributions to the album, Hank Sherman (ex Mercyful Fate) and Mark Boals (ex Malmsteen, now singer of Royal Hunt).
In conclusion, “Ravenous” is an album that should be heard by all who are acquainted to the older Wolf’s work, since it is their best so far, in my opinion, as well as for all of you who love the classic heavy metal sound, but still you don’t want to hear another facile copy with bad musicians and production.
