Kingdom Come
"Magnified"
Label: Planet Music & Media
This is a new release from Kingdom Come, after of 3 years of absence and the very good release of “Aint Talking To The Moon”. So, having in mind a taste from the past and having “Get It On” and “Do You Like It” haunting me till today, I began listening to the new tracks having also knowing that the style of the band through out the years and after a number of releases is not the same anymore. And from the very first notes I understood that something has changed.
Rock guitars that took me away to past times and reminded me of some great moments, yet recorded with the sounds of today. I could say that the commerciality and the catchy couplets that once were the trademark of the band are now absent and they have been replaced by a raunchier sound that is the trademark of today.
Lenny Wolf’s voice remained unchanged through time and he performs his songs with professionalism and remarkable expression. What made me feel a little bit strange is the use of the electronic sounds, such as the drum machine and programming that was used, a fact that was a little awkward comparing to the band’s past. But in general I considered it as a musical evolution and part of today’s sound and needs. After all, it would be very selfish and arrogant from my point of view to expect a release of another “In Your Face” in 2009.
More analytically, the cd has 12 tracks that are classic rockers. We have great performances from Lenny Wolf and great guitars, that were recorded by Eric Foerster and by Lenny himself on “Unwritten language" and on “Over You”. I did not recognize any commercial tracks but mature songs that unite yesterday and today. The production is remarkable and it fits like a glove with the band.
Finally, “Magnified” must be heard by all the old and new friends of Kingdom Come and by all who prefer quality classic rock.
