"Impetus"

Label: Frontiers

Is it bad to dig a disk a great deal, even if you cannot find easily something new in it that would justify this feeling you get from it? Is it wrong to enjoy well-played and and by all means good music when it belongs to a king that many have rushed into condemning it with the explanation that it has offered all that was possible? Enough, with the guilts created by the metal «historians».  Ecliptica possess every right to give their own interpretation to what we could call modern heavy/power which  denies to ignore the basic and classic principles of this music. And they are doing it very good. «Impetus» charmed right from the beginning. After the necessary intro, comes «My Paradise» ,which shows us exactly what is about to follow. It has an impressive melodic intro, high speeds, heavy riffs that are nicely opposed to the melodic parts,  changing of tempos,  shiftings  between male and female vocals that mark the changes of moods in the songs from power to lyricism.

All the songs that follow reveal one by one all these sides of Ecliptica’s music. In some parts they also approach epic metal both lyrically and musically an in other parts they cautiously explore some progressive potentials they might have. «Land Of Silence» along with «Carry On» out because of their powerful energy, while «Turn Away» is a very niceand sensitive ballad.  «
Βlack Swan» which is the closer of the album lasts 9 minutes and shows a band that won’t hesitate to take the risk of writing long sons which surely need a great deal of inspiration in order  not to end up boring( after all everybody wants to compose their own Rime Of The Ancient Mariner). Anyway, the cd is by no doubt a very good option for those who like good power metal. I am definitely looking forward for the next disc.
