When the new Wizard cd arrived, I didn’t have great expectations, and the reason was that some older releases that I had heard didn’t satisfied me. ‘Cliché’ epic power metal, nothing something special, mostly boring with only a very few good inspired moments.

With those negative thoughts I began listening to the new album ‘Thor’, but in few seconds I had already forgotten them. ‘Thor’, the eighth studio album for the German true metallers, left me with my mouth open. Epic power dynamite which is better than many albums of much bigger groups of a genre that lately hasn’t given us great releases.

The return of the original guitarist Michael Mass, after the health problem that he had, gave an extra force in the band, and the result was a release with 11 fantastic compositions without any filler. The tracks ‘Visitor’ and ‘What Would You Do’ easily could be in one of the latest Manowar cds, while the rest of the songs are in the style of groups like Stormwarrior but in a higher level. The singer Sven D’ Anna has changed for the better while the 2 guitarists have done a great job in the rhythm and the lead guitars.

As the title heralds, the lyrics are about some stories of God Thor that tie in perfectly with the music part of the album. The new Wizard cd is already in my list with the best releases of 2009!
