Inactive Messiah
"Sinful Nation"
Label: Holy Records
Inactive Messiah returns with their third album (the album under the name Womb Of Maggots isn’t included) in a steady 2-year form of distance between albums. “Sinful Nation” is their last with this recording line-up since Michalis (drums) and Sotiris (guitar) left the band.
Artistically, the album picks up where their previous “Be My Drug” left. That means a lot of Septic Flesh influences with some choruses that will remind you of Rotting Christ (mid era) and also some Horrified elements combined with some groovy guitars. These pretty much complete the puzzle and it’s what in the ‘90s was called Greek death metal.
This CD, though, contains plain one-hand guitar riffs on the repeat, leads that sound the same in most of the tracks (with Chris from Septic Flesh as a guest…) and false vocals. Contemporary death metal, even in its melodic form they claim to be part of, is too demanding. The style of these Greek bands of the previous decade sounds very poor today; sad but true. Most new Greek death metal bands seem to have surpassed it but Inactive is not included. For some they’re not even death metal.
If you’re already a fan, “Sinful Nation” will find its way. It’s more or less what you were used to get from the guys. If you ask for more you won’t find it with this band.
