"Monumento"
Label: Another Sphere
This is the first CD of a project created by keyboard/piano artist Sophia Charalambous. The album recordings began back in July ’06 but after many delays they finished in September ’07. The French label Another Sphere found some interest and released “Monumento” in 2008.
First thing an experienced fan notices is that their style is old-school symphonic metal (as it was played in the ‘90s) with many elements from classical orchestral music involved in their sound. Actually, it’s very-very close to Angizia (the band from Austria with the long German titles back in the second half of the previous decade) or our own En-Garde. Dakrya tries to present a fresh idea to this genre but there are 3 major disputes created against their effort: 1) The English accents are very bad, something typical for Greek bands, 2) This ‘plastic’ sound doesn’t convince of its innocent intentions; everything sounds programmed! 3) However good these orchestrations might be programmed, the ideas seem so preterit and uninteresting. The tracks aren’t able to keep the listener’s attention during the 54 minutes of its total length or justify the working time period of the album.
Not even for Angizia style die-hards, then? Maybe, if they consider it a demo CD; it’s not. It’s a full-length album thus in a higher level that can’t be achieved.
