Kreator
"Hordes Of Chaos"
Label: SPV
Kreator, the well known German thrashers, are back in action with their new album “Hordes Of Chaos”, 4 years after the release of “Enemy of God”.
The first thing that would probably draw your attention is the production, which is done by Moses Schneider this time. Although he gave the band a very clear and natural sound, I think it would need a little better work at the guitar parts, since they sound a little weak (at least comparing to previous Kreator albums).
Τhe album consists of 10 tracks with an average duration of 3,5-4 minutes and they continue the good old tradition of the German group. The typical Kreator riffs are present all over the album, in addition to the melodic parts, the typical vocals of Mille and the drumming rolls of Ventor. The songs are fast, aggressive, but at the same time they include melodic hooks and catchy sound. There are no bad or uninspired moments, but the ones that step out are the self titled “Hordes of chaos”, with its direct and fast riffs and its chaotic solos, “Warcurse” with its bombastic rhythm and its superfast riffs and “Amok Run” for its exchange of Mille’s clear vocals to the endless aggressiveness and fast tempo riffing that follows. My favorite song of the album is “To the Afterburn”, one of their most melodic and at the same time inspired and dynamic songs. “Demon Prince” and “Radical Resistance” remind us a lot of the “Extreme Aggression” era of the band. The tracks’ lyrics follow the classic recipe of social criticism and aggressiveness.
In conclusion, we can say that “Hordes of Chaos” is definitely one of the best thrash albums of the year and it is highly recommended to the fans of Kreator, as well as to the fans of the familiar thrash sound of their own and of other thrash bands of the same era and style, without being stale and with no progress to their sound.
