Jimi Jamison
"Crossroads Moment"
Label: Frontiers
Frontiers Records release yet another album from a classic and legendary AOR singer, Jimi Jamison. His talent is unworldly and his new album “Crossroads Moment” proves that he hasn’t lost his touch. He has compiled fourteen tracks of AOR oriented music. Many great musicians are featured in this album, some of which are members of the band Survivor.
Songs that should be acknowledges are “Can’t Look Away”, “Make Me A Believer”, “Crossroads Moment”, “Behind the Music”, “As Is”, “That’s Why I Sing”, and “When Rock Was King”. In a nutshell the songs are very much like Survivor. The album seems to be a tribute to his musical career. The theme is basically revolving around music as one can notice from the titles of the songs. The song that is proof of this allegation of mine, among many, is the last track “When Rock Was King”. It’s a group song featuring, on vocals, Jim Peterik, Don Barnes, Mike Reno, Mickey Thomas, Dave Bickler and Joe Lynn Turner. The song pays tribute to the monsters of rock, from The Who to Motley Crue and, of course, Survivor.
In simple words, the album is really good. But there is not one thing that can distinguishes this solo work from a Survivor album. As the lyric of one of the songs on the album, “Behind the Music”, says, “And though the melodies have changed, still the song remains the same...”. That’s an interesting statement because it brings up a good question. Has the melody really changed at all?
