Serenity
"Fallen Sanctuary"
Label: Napalm Records
The Austrian band Serenity is releasing its second piece of work with the full cd “Fallen Sanctuary” which follows its promising last year’s debut “Words Untold Dreams Unlived”.
The band is moving on the paths of symphonic melodic metal with fundamental elements of their musical existence the symphonic orchestrations and the dynamic guitar parts following the style of Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish etc. The cd is comprised of ten special quality compositions which flow pleasantly offering a satisfactory result.
More specifically, up-tempo moments along with rhythmic riffs combined harmonically with keyboards and classical style are evident everywhere. The starting tracks “All Lights Reversed”, “Rust of Coming Ages”, and “Coldness Kills” are representive samples of the band’s style with noticeable element the existence of brutal vocals in the second one of those. Expressiveness, melody and lyricism enriched by the metal element which is clear throughout the album, are offered by Serenity and tracks like “Velatum”, “Sheltered (By The Obscure)” are full of these characteristics. Milder moments are not absent though, with “Fairytales” stealing the show.
A basic advantage of the band is the golden rule combination between the melody offered by keyboards and the metal spark of the guitar riffs. Consequently, Serenity can easily gather both power as well as symphonic/melodic even classic metal fans.
“Fallen Sanctuary” is a solid and well worked album which lacks originality but not at all energy, passion and full explored ideas. With a little luck and right choices they have the ability to become the next hot name in melodic metal. Again, this is a very promising album for the future.
