"Metal Style"

Label: Metal Mayhem Music

Cannon is a German band formed back in 1986 and in 1988 they released their debut album “Thunder and Lightning”. They were dissolved in 1996, came back in 2003 and released the album-statement “Back in Business”. This year’s “Metal Style” is the third accomplishment of Cannon.

Thus, this is clearly a “second chance” case in the career of a band coming from another era. However, the fans reservations are many regarding this movement having creative and love for music motives or just financial. In the case of Cannon the effort for a consistent discographic presence by creating new material lifts in a great extent any reservations on the reasons of their reactivation.

The band’s new work “Metal Style” is one step forward from their previous album and this alone is a positive fact. From a musical point of view, you should not expect any modernity. Old fashioned German-cut metal, with the basic stereotyped elements of this school: UDO type vocals (less hoarse though), energy, sharp guitars, “loud-mouthed” refrains. The cd Flag”, “Waiting”, “I Bet You Win” and “Bells Of Glory” standing out more. An album that flows pleasantly without offering something different, just fulfilling its purpose: to offer light-hearted musical moments to friends-listeners of the 80’s metal like Accept/Udo, Judas Priest, old Grave Digger, Leatherwolf etc.

Good elements do exist, as well as mood and spark. So what else is there left for Cannon to change level? More solid and convincing compositions as well as greater focus on the final result, as an album is acclaimed from its greater view and not just a few nice compositions. We look forward for more in the future. Furthermore, “Metal Style” has set the path.
