Harmony
Chapter II: Aftermath
Label: Metal Heaven
The Swedish Harmony present to us their second cd where they play melodic power metal. A deeply misunderstood genre nowadays because of its exhausted originality. But still this lack of originality is the reason why we have to praise the cds that make a difference and have quality in this metal scene. Harmony, except for the power metal basis of their music, have also some progressive hints among their songs and this is easily explained by the fact that almost the whole band are also members of the progressive metal band Darkwater. Here, though, we have classic melodic metal approaching Malmsteen, Royal Hunt and the early Nocturnal Rites, with keyboards (there are many hammond parts by the way) very present, quick tempos, neo classical guitar themes and a voice that fits their sound perfectly. Their compositions show great potential and that they have fresh ideas and are performed in a very complete way.
As far as the songs are concerned, I specially noticed “Prevail”, “Run”, “Hollow Faces” and “End Of My Road”, but in general you couldn’t easily say that there is a really bad song. It is by all means a very good creation that stands out above the maze of the mediocre albums and we would have to apologise if we did not give them a chance, especially all of us that are fond of this sound. |
