Paragon
"Screenslaves"
Label: Massacre Records
Being loyal to their fans, the German group Paragon is making its comeback, better than ever. Paragon’s ninth studio album continues in the same style as the previous eight. Today, in 2008, the Hamburg band insists on playing Teutonic heavy metal, a kind that had its fill years ago.
Despite that, “Sreenslaves” breaks out of the hard-pan and starts aggressively with the openers ‘Hellgore’ and ‘Disconnected’ which are offered for unstoppable head banging as well as ‘Death next door’ and ‘Waxworks’ do. The rest of album is not equally impressive, however we meet compositions that will surely satisfy the friends of German heavy metal, while a big surprise comes with the great cover of ‘Larger of Than Life’ from Backstreet Boys!!!
Definitely, Paragon are not famous for the originality in their compositions while furthermore I can’t understand after all these years why the vocalist Andreas Babuschkin insists on copying the vocals of Chris Boltendahl (Grave Digger). On the other hand, the very good work on the guitars from Martin Christian and Gonter "Gonny " Kruse is a permanent guarantee. In all, their new album “Screenslaves” is better than its predecessors reaching the levels of “Chalice of steel” from 1999 that gave them the recognition in this genre.
