Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force
"Perpetual Flame"
Label: Rising Force Records
This is a new release form the guitar”wizard” and his Stratocaster figures on the cover as always. But what made even more interesting that release is the addition of Tim ‘Ripper” Owens on the vocals, well known from his co-operation with Judas Priest and Iced Earth. Somehow I expect to hear heavy metal paths and orientations, pounding drums and finally I am correct, this is what I receive. The result is a pure and accurate, well performed heavy metal. Yngwie is generally in a good mood and does his best in what his knows better than anyone -shredding the classical way. The Ripper distinguishes with his unique style of performing and taste, I could say that he raises the standard in a higher level, with his strong, clean vocals, while is some cases he reminds me of Halford (fact which is not bad at all). Yngwie gives me the impression that he wants to return to his roots. Listening to the tracks I found lots of similarities with his classic 2 first releases, although the current one can not compete them at all -as we said, the aforementioned releases belong to a different era- but in general overview I was satisfied with the result. As far as the performing, the cd is brilliant as always, I did not expect anything less. But as far as the tracks, I was thoughtful, as I did not hear something different comparing to what I hear all these years. Surely there are some tracks that raise the standards, such as “Damnation Game”, but what I miss is the touch of freshness that characterizes a new release. In all, we support the “Maestro” and we are expecting for something even better in the future.
