"All Hope Is Gone"

Label: Roadrunner Records

What can I say about Slipknot? They are maybe the hottest and controversial band of contemporary heavy metal. They are the band that combined brutality with brains, chaos with art, paranoia with talent and reached the point where they are now. Thus, having possibly the most impressive drummer in commercial metal at this time, a singer with an astonishing voice who writes lyrics unexpectedly experiential for those who can dive into their depth and by now songs for every taste.

And whereas the times of their violent debut album have gone by, the heavy moments of “All Hope Is Gone” bring Iowa closer because they are heavier, more aggressive and death than in “Vol 3”. From the other side the more mainstream songs approach the music of Taylor’s (the singer) Stone Sour and this might divide the old and latest fans of the band even more. I, personally, enjoy both of these sides of their music. II think there is no need for me to say that the sound is overwhelming once more and the performances are of musicians already accomplished. I am sure you expected this.

Let’s say some things about the songs separately. “Dead Memories” is a wonderful piece, even though it is quite mainstream, the single “Psychosocial” stands out, “Gematria” is a dynamite right from the beginning, “Sulfur” and “This Cold Black” have some super riffs and “Snuff” is a ballad hard to describe…just listen  and surrender to it.

Slipknot are here. Welcome back guys. We had been worried because we thought we had lost you. Metal needs you! Nothing else.
