Greg Howe

"Sound Proof"

Label: Mascot Records - Shrapnel Records

A "friend" from the past, this is how I would characterize Greg Howe. Some might remember Mike Varney (legendary producer), and his "children" (Yngwie Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker, et.c.). Greg was one of them, who with the aforementioned guitar heroes was responsible for the establishment of hard rock guitar shredding during the 80s and 90s.

After 5 years of absence from the discography, Greg showed up with a compilation of tracks which have the taste of jazz-rock-fusion. The performance is awesome as always, fantastic licks and distinguished playing. Additionally the rhythm section is aware on how this music must be played.

Listening carefully to the tracks, I could easily spot influences from another "guru" of jazz rock guitar Frank Gabbale, played by the unique style of Greg. As examples I mention "Side Note" and "Sound Proof".

If you are a die hard fan of jazz-rock-fusion music, this cd is for you.
