Lauren Harris
"Calm Before The Storm"
Label: DR2 Records
Lauren Harris is Steve Harris’s daughter, yes you got that right, Steve Harris the Founder and cornerstone of Iron Maiden, who are my all time beloved band in an almost pathologic way. But this does not mean at all that I would be supportive only because she has the genre of the legendary bassist and without any terms. On the contrary, I will objectively try to see what her debut album has to offer to the listener.
Here we go. The music of “The Calm Before The Storm” is commercial and joyful hard rock which also approaches powerpop as the band also admits (for example in Lauren Harris’s myspace page). When I had watched Lauren Harris live supporting Iron Maiden last year in Ellhnikothe sound of the band was by far heavier and I was expecting something similar by the cd to tell the truth. The sound though is quite light and reminds me somehow for an inexplicable reason Knack( the band that once wrote the massive rock hit My Sharona) with a contemporary production. The cd’s best songs are “Steal Your Fire”, “Get Over It” , “Like It Or Not” and the ballad “From The Bottom To The Top”, all of them having very nice choruses. The band’s musicians are executively very competent. Lauren’s voice is also nice. And the colour of he rvoice makes promises for even bigger potentials. And that is why I would like to listen to her in something more aggressive, heavier and deeper. I would like to listen to her rocking for good. We’ll see…
