Dokken
"Lightning Strikes Again"
Label: Frontiers
Lightning strikes again indeed. As Dokken’s tenth album, “Lightning Strikes Again”, hits the shelves in early April, they’ve come back strong. Twelve track of good wholesome rock. A lot of elements of their older album can be recognized to keep their already existing fans. They also project a modern rock view to the songs to attract new audiences. The album is on the right track but it cannot measure up to the glory days of “Under Lock & Key” or “Tooth and Nail”. The grandeur of music of that decade, unfortunately, can never come back…
Dokken’s voice still rings on to make his unique vocal harmonics which is his singing signature. The first song on the album, “Standing On the Outside”, has a great and catchy chorus and tight backing vocals. In a couple of other songs Don Dokken sounds like Bon Jovi; in the beginning of the song “How I miss your Smile” and “I Remember”. Awkward! Furthermore, thumbs up for the other members of Dokken, Jon Levin (guitar), Barry Sparks (bass), and Mike Brown (drums and vocals). Outstanding performance on the album.
The album is fairly good but I can’t stop thinking that they have tired themselves out as well as their songs. They still got good rock vibes, no complaints! The album is truly well done. Why should anyone complain? Its Dokken! |
