Journey
"Revelation"
Label: Frontiers
Journey is my 3rd in the row all time favorite band and I have been watching every single step they make for many years now. What I can positively say is that “Revelation” is first of all the “most Journey” effort ever since the “Trial By Fire” of 1996!
After Steve Augeri and Jeff Scott Soto (the last one actually stayed with the band only for a few months), Journey finally found the right replacement for Steve Perry in Philippine Arnel Pineda’s voice, who Neal Schon discovered through youtube. Being a Journey fan himself and already playing in a band, The Zoo, with which he played many Journey covers, not only he knows how to perform a song in a right way, but with his gifted voice I reckon that he is the only one that finally is worth to fill in Steve Perry’s shoes with his own style and without sounding like a bad copy!
The album opens with “Never Walk Away”, a cheerful melodic song in the vein of “Only The Young”, while the next one “Like A Sunshower” (in the vein of “Lights) comes to confirm that Journey’s typical sound is back! Arnel has done a good job on performing the songs, while Neal’s guitars prove once again his reputation as one of the most gifted and talented guitarist in history of rock!
The beautiful ballad “After All These Years”, the amazing and my personal favorite “ Where Did I Lose Your Love”, “What I Needed” and the wonderful instrumental “The Journey (Revelation)” where Neals’s melodies simply take you away, are the highlights of the album although the whole album is a pleasant surprise for the fans.
“Revelation” is actually a real revelation. It is the relevation of a huge band that finds its way again, an album that proudly declares the come back of Journey! Finally, the best piece of work of the band since “Trial By Fire” is here and it is called “Revelation”! Don’t hesitate to “expose” yourself to this “revelation”, it really worth it!
Note: The album is also available in a 2-disc limited edition with an extra CD that includes 11 Journey re-recorded classics with Arnel Pineda and a three-disc CD/DVD limited edition available only at Wal-Mart stores.
