Grand Slam
"Glasgow Kiss"
Label: Krescendo Records
I don’t know if it’s a good thing that I am reviewing an album of my beloved Phil! I will try to be as objective as possible...
So, we have a live album from Grand Slam, Phil Lynott’s band after the supreme (in my opinion) Thin Lizzy! Recorded in Glasgow in October 1984. The sound is not very good but again not as bad as a bootleg’s.
Phil had back then made a new start with a small band, something that shows what an anti-star he was and that he didn’t have the support from companies in order to get a recorded live equal to “Live And Dangerous”. This live is recommended to Phil’s fans and even more to the most loyal and “stuck” ones like the undersigned. Among others there is a cover of Procol Harum’s “Whiter Shade of Pale” as well as Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone” – Phil is incedible especially in the first one. To be honest, the band makes some mistakes but I guess that’s a good thing for a live show.
Finally, it is only suggested to those who want to have some personal moments of this gifted composer, poet, singer!!! |
