Whitesnake
"Forevermore"
Label: Frontiers Records
Well, David Coverdale proves to be more productive than anticipated and here he comes again, presenting yet another Whotesnake album, all in three years. The tantalizing question is what can one expect from this new album, having in mind that the previous one was… err… it wasn’t… As it comes down, quite a lot… since this ne album is as far from the previous one as David is far from his youth! Listening to the first couple of picks of the opening Steal your Heart, it is obvious that the inadequacies and misfires of the Good To be Bad Album where first realized by its creator. And it becomes more obvious when you go on for a couple of more songs. Forevermore is a truly, totally and majestically real Whitesnake album and this is quite agreeable. The return-to-basics Whitesnake sound is here and is welcomed. The Bluesy posture and the funky mood are also here and they prevail. The whole sound is much clearer and more “rock” to the ear. So… all is good… or is it? Well, not that much, since the album’s second half is not that interesting and the agreeability factor goes down. Even more, this album follows the same clichés as the previous one. Every lyric, every breath it is standardized and sound out of date. This is not an excellent Whitesnake album. It just isn’t. Nevertheless, you can’t help but shiver listening to Coverdale’s voice at parts, can’t help but breathe deeply with each one of his sighs and each deep breath he takes. And you can’t because there are certain things that are truly his, loved by each and every one of us. It is also very important that Whitesnake return with an album that fits perfectly with their true style. This albums helps you have a great time with its first four-five tracks while it won’t spoil the fan with the rest. Therefore, all good… As good as it must be, definitely not as good as one would want but surely as good as it needs for Coverdale to keep singing Forevermore… |
