"Burning Fortune"

Label: Erache Records

Cauldron are a new Canadian band that seems to share a common attitude with bands like Enforcer, White Wizzard and Bullet. They simply don’t care about trends and music mainstream that labels and the press have turned into a standard, they chose to serve their beliefs and look determined to rock, choosing the difficult unconventional way and the traditional values of the old heavy metal sound. And just for that, kudos to the lads!

Their debut (Chained  The Night, 2009) was good enough, however not remarkable. Their new album “Burning Fortune”, though, really rocks! Traditional Heavy Metal with distinguishable NWOBHM references and mainly huge cuts that you love listening to again and again.

The album opens up with “All Or Nothing”, an unbelievable song that puts you against the wall! Relentless head-banging, the old school way! The next one, plain and “catchier” Miss You To Death goes on impressing at a similar level while Tears Have Come and Queen Of Fire keep a place within the most remarkable ones without the rest falling back behind.

Cauldron have evolved since their debut, mainly as far as the compositions themselves are concerned. They are not the most technical band in the world and if they improve on that aspect they will definitely attract a bigger audience. This album is a must for all NWOBHM fans and all fans of traditional Heavy Metal. While I don’t expect them to be a first choice of anybody else, I don’t think that the mainstream is their target. Simple, direct and substantial, this is an album to be a choice of all old-school metalheads!
