"The World Is Yours"

Label: Motorhead Music/ EMI Music

The handmade, leather boots, the fitting black hat and the thundering Rickenbacker 4004L took their places in the studio, giving us one more classic album, one of those that are destined to become a subject of multiple analysis and gasping controversy without any meaning whatsoever. “I’m Back Suckers!” that’s what the smile of the Motörhead mastermind seems to smirk on the covers of music magazines across the world and the heavy title flashing on the cover with the globe and the trademark Snaggletooth speaks for itself: Ladies & Gents, “The Wörld Is Yours”!

I can’t tell if this is a miracle of some kind or a natural sequel, however Lemmy Kilmister and Co do not seem to be having a thundering come-back  (such an ineffective term, eh Lemmy?), neither did they enter the production procedure to make an extra buck after the amazing “Mötorizer”…

Then what? “How can you explain their need to get in the studio again to make such an album” a friend asked me. “A second puberty” I replied. If you look through the song titles, you will see (along with the rest of a billion fans) that what we have here is a return to the “root of evil”, the primal stone, fully serving the primordial Motörhead stereotype. “Born To Lose”, “Get Back In Line”, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Music”, Bye Bye Bitch Bye Bye” are some of the specimens of the glorious Motörhead past that point directly to the creations/masterpieces of the bands first prime. Even the video for the “Get Back In Line” reveals the “heyday marks” on their faces. The lyrics are out there and are screaming for notice, isn’t that what Lemmy always did? Lyrics for a rock ‘n’ roll seminar? Don’t just take my word for it!

I see we are in terms this far. And sonically? Where do the 2011 Motörhead go sonically? Where they always went. Riding along our first mischief with “Eat The Rich”, a pat on the back after the first heartbreak with “Love Me Forever”, wiped our chin after that hangover we promised we would never repeat (but we did anyway) with “Life’s A Bitch”. Always there. That’s what they do now again. Why change things? With the storming groove of the opening “Born To Lose”, the bad-ass attitude of “I Know How To Die” and the ultimate all time classic “Brotherhood Of Man” reminiscent of the “Orgasmatron” era. The only difference from that time is in the guitars. Therefore, you have to give credit to Phil Campbell and to his six-string LAG’s deep sound, in comparison to any other Motörhead album.

It’s too early to tell whether the “The Wörld Is Yours” enters the top-5 Motörhead albums of all time, especially when we’re dealing with a band that counts no less tha 20 studio albums! Again, I might not be the most suitable person to make a verdict, being a die-hard fan and all. I feel that this verdict can only come through the course of time, leaving another 35 years to go by and make a decision then.

P.S. This review is dedicated to the memory of a Motörhead fan that passed away in Leeds, UK on the last Thursday of November, after watching his beloved band perform live.
