"Black Masses"

Label: Rise Above

What could be a proper prologue for the sicko Jus Osborne and his musical vehicle? That they promote the use of cannabis? That their music is the most stoned doom metal ever? That they haven’t release something bad until now? Or that all the rest of today’s doom metal sounds light compared to them?

Their seventh effort named “Black Masses” won’t disappoint their fans: crawling masses of rotting metal with wandering, psychedelic and lazy vocals, dressed in the super fat and slow-rhythm guitar riffs which are filled with pedal effects, in intensely mysterious tempos; thus the band’s name. Their occult style, combined with the lyrics, would perfectly suit a black metal band, causing a dark hearing of the album. Their success is that you’ve got to listen to the whole thing for about an hour and not just listen to a piece of it; somewhat typical Electric Wizard attitude… The only brand new is Greek bassist named Tas, something with no effect on the band’s sound.

If you like doom metal but you haven’t heard of Electric Wizard…oops, THIS CAN’T BE! You probably have the double vinyl format of “Black Masses”  already. For the rest of you, don’t buy it. It’s not the album that will unite all metal brothers, neither the new apocalypse nor their best effort. But what do all these matter for some of us who breathe for ‘ugly’, ‘filthy’, ‘creepy’ and full of personality metal! Personality is something that Electric Wizard has more than they need…
